And Then Quite Suddenly

I look at the world sometimes and fall in love all over again. I read a blog post from some guy about why "we are responsible for poverty in third-world countries." And how this guy is from the first world. And although I frequently flinch at compassion guised in disgust and pity, the guy was able to express logically how canceling third-world debt will do a world of good without adversely affecting the economies of the first-world countries.

In the face of all the negativity, when you see someone speaking up so unselfishly for someone else, same way my friend Mayra is taking the heat in the fight against narrow-minded homosexuality-is-evil-because-the-Bible-says-so entities, it just makes your heart smile.

Same way an untainted honest compliment can make someone's day so much brighter.

Same way a real appreciation for what you have now: friends, family, roofs over our heads, a fun job, regular salary, complete body parts, should be enough for you to go on and get out of bed and shrug off every bit of resentment and anger and insecurity and depression that is just so easy to get into when you're not watching it.

I love you, world. I'm sorry for being so angry.
